Interledger grantees work across the world in different financial environments, from regions with limited infrastructure to highly connected digital economies. They include community-based organizations, researchers, technologists, and advocates who build infrastructure, advance research, shape policy, and expand how financial systems work in practice.

    RESIMULATE explores the effectiveness of financial and economic programs popular in the self-help business literature and in various worldwide political policies in generating financial inclusion. With the use of interactive computational simulations of economic models, RESIMULATE directs two large-scale 3D clay printers. Through the expression in the sculptural possibilities, the voids, weaknesses, and even strengths of financial systems and strategies take shape and become self-evident.

  2. Sikhula Sonke - Living Archives of Afrofuturist Village Banking

    The audio-visual art exhibition will build an imagery that shifts mindsets about wealth and how it is defined. Sikhula Sonke is an isiXhosa phrase which means ‘we grow together.’ The living archives will present stories of elders from Southern Africa whose knowledge can inform Afro-futurist financial systems that are not centered on Capitalism. The mixed media visual artwork will depict alternative systems based on archival research on the same topic so that the Afrocentric storytelling will serve as a continuation of archives, hence becoming living archives shaping an Afro-futurist imagining of financial systems based on village banking.

  3. The Waterworks of Money

    Digital Media/animation. They are mapping three future scenarios in which new forms of digital money, payment systems, and systemic change play a pivotal role. By making the world of money more understandable for people without a financial or economic background we have noticed discussions on the design of our monetary system become more accessible. With our maps and the metaphor of water, suddenly people who were never interested in the topic join the discussion about other payments structures, CBDC and restructuring our capital markets.

  4. Bowie State University

    Through ILF’s support, Bowie State University will use the proposed course to hone the focus of eCommerce through the lens of the digital financial ecosystem that supports the exchange of goods and services. In particular, the course will explore tipping, alternative advertising, disintermediation, and rearchitecting eCommerce without central authorities.

    In our increasingly digitized society, online spaces are oftentimes owned – or exploited – by large tech companies that seem to disconnect from shared public values. We have become largely dependent on their digital services, and digital platform or content creators are bound to their terms. The standard is ‘free’ platforms built on advertisement income. In other words, the rights of users are violated by exploiting their personal data. These disruptive changes in our socio-economic landscape demand research into new financial models that are based on public values.

  6. Sharing values, sharing funds - Web Monetization as a catalyst for social change

    In the technology and music spaces, Women, Black, Brown, Asian, Indigenous, and LGBTQ communities have been underrepresented and under-served with far less access to equal resources and salaries than their white male cis counterparts.  We want to give our community the opportunity to use cutting edge resources and technology to further advance their careers and artist profiles. In addition, we want to see our community receive the financial dues they deserve.

    Web Monetization for the Arts is an education and outreach project that listens to and informs arts organizations in the United States about Web Monetization so that they may develop more effective and sustainable online content practices. Our project researches and surveys classical music and performing arts groups to discover their current understanding of Web Monetization, meeting them where they are, and then writes and delivers educational materials in order to create sustainable and equitable practices and deconstruct myths around free art.

  9. Web Monetized Digital Knowledge Commons - Powered by Mysilio

    Mysilio will build a prototype for an open-source platform for managing a shared knowledge commons that is financially sustained through passive Web Monetization. Readers, research groups, grantmakers, etc can pay a subscription to access a community's social knowledge graph, and the subscription fees will be split and attributed to the individual creators whose content is being consumed through the platform.

    Digital Gojo addresses the lack of access to diverse digital content available to Ethiopians across the diaspora. Digital Gojo is a research and development project exploring use-cases to transform Ethiopia’s local and international creative value network into a sustainable web monetization ecosystem. The project will include a digital platform that will offer a working prototype for distributing and monetizing content while examining new commercial and cultural access models.
