Interledger grantees work across the world in different financial environments, from regions with limited infrastructure to highly connected digital economies.   1. Web Monetization to Protect Libraries and the Digital Future: The Brick House Cooperative

    This project will allow the Brick House Cooperative to develop more partnerships for Briet, a WordPress plugin that will enable any publisher to create an ownable digital artifact compliant with digital library lending programs. We are working with the Open Library and the Internet Archive on this initiative. The result of this work will be vastly more digital publishers who can (a) control the rights and archiving of their media, (b) develop a new revenue stream from libraries acquiring their digital works to archive and lend, and (c) an unlocked value proposition for reader-supported projects, in that their donations can help publishers to produce new works, and libraries to acquire them permanently.

  2. Web Monetized Digital Knowledge Commons - Powered by Mysilio

    Mysilio will build a prototype for an open-source platform for managing a shared knowledge commons that is financially sustained through passive Web Monetization. Readers, research groups, grantmakers, etc can pay a subscription to access a community's social knowledge graph, and the subscription fees will be split and attributed to the individual creators whose content is being consumed through the platform.

  3. Black Tattoo Anthology

    The Black Tattoo Anthology addresses the historical erasure of Black artists and Black tattoo culture. The project will create an anthology that chronicles the Black tattoo experience from professional artists with at least five years in their craft and outlines the historical milestones, movements, and contributions of Black artists and artistry to the tattoo industry. This digital collection will be created, curated, maintained, and Web Monetized by Black practitioners and the tattoo community, and the stories will be shared both digitally and in physical form.

  4. Call & Response

    Call & Response is a system to convert real-time, virtual concert audience responses into money and sound for performers using social media and other virtual platforms. Dubbed Call & Response after the eponymous Black music tradition, the system leverages blockchain and digital signal processing technologies to address for virtual environment performers two critical problems: silenced audiences and inadequate compensation. The system absorbs audience response data and delivers digital asset payments to performers.

  5. The Keyes Collective

    The Black Artist Collective’s platform will model a new, passive revenue stream for artists and curators to add long-term value to their essential work. The Art of Influence project will leverage close relationships with curators to connect black artists with a global network of collectors and art enthusiasts. Online exhibitions, curator “walk-throughs,” and studio visits will provide a meaningful access point for the public to engage with living artists’ work. By integrating Web Monetization micropayments into The Black Artist Collective’s platform, even novice art lovers can contribute to artists’ financial wellbeing as they learn more about their work.

  7. HostBeak Kreators

  8. Launchpad - an interactive game about successfully making and monetizing web applications.

    Launchpad is an interactive game, playable through messengers (WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, etc) and a companion web app. The goal is to playfully educate and enable internet users to successfully monetize their creations on the web and gamifies real processes in the software and web market. This way, it also abstracts and describes processes and ideas such as DRM, AI-based algorithms, paywalls, etc., and educates players on the challenges and importance of modern internet and web technologies, enabling them to make the right decisions.

  9. MG.Social

    MG.Social is a live and fully functional, ad-free, Web Monetized social network (micro-blogging) platform. The business model of MG.Social is built around the revenue generated by integrating the Web Monetization standard into the platform and requiring a Web Monetization provider subscription (Coil) for access. For content creators, the advantage of the platform is the ability to easily monetize and receive instant compensation when their content is consumed by Coil subscribers on MG.Social. The advantage for content consumers is the ability to directly support creators as they consume that creator's content, advertiser-free. The nature of a micro-blogging platforms leads to users that tend to both create and consumer content, allowing them to obtain both benefits.

  10. Reductress: The "Members Only" Section

    Reductress is the first and only satirical women’s magazine. For years, the ad model has forced Reductress to focus on pageviews, site traffic, and loading the site with ads, which has compromised site speed and user experience, with diminishing returns in revenue. In line with our goal to leave the ad model behind, Reductress has already enabled the framework for microdonations and subscriptions to the site for an ad-free experience and exclusive content. We’re ultimately laying the groundwork to rely more substantially on Web Monetization in general and building out core features of a “Members Only” section of our site to engage Web Monetized users in a world of curated Reductress content that they can rank and discuss in an online community.
